Her Free Time
In her free time, Lebanese biomedical engineer Alaa Salam manages a local maker space called Lamba Labs Beirut Hackerspace. It is an open space where all kinds of makers, engineers, programmers, tinkerers, artists, and technology experts come together to learn from each other. Some of the hallmarks that separate it from other maker spaces are its affiliation with Make Magazine. The magazine was one of the main organizers of the first-ever Beirut Mini Maker Faire in 2019. Furthermore, Lamba Labs is the official reseller of Adafruit. Hence, it is currently working closely with them to translate the build of CircuitPython to Arabic.
Her Response to COVID19
In light of COVID19, Alaa is volunteering on behalf of Lamba Labs. They work with Lebanon Response Team, the official Lebanon chapter of the international Open Source Medical Supplies initiative. Moreover, this initiative aims to design, manufacture, and distribute medical supplies (mainly PPE) and open-source medical equipment.
