“What if Lebanon was Swallow Falls from the Movie cloudy with a chance of meatball?” That’s one question that came to our minds very randomly so read on to discover more about one of the weirdest “what ifs” that you will ever find online!
Recap: Cloudy With A Chance of Meatball
First, for those who don’t know what the movie Cloudy With A Chance of Meatball is, let us give you a quick summary. That movie is a children’s movie that features an Aspiring scientist Flint Lockwood that lives with his windowed father Tim and his monkey pet Steve. The story happens on an island called Swallow Falls somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean. However, things are pretty bad for this island… At the begining of the movie, everyone goes by their life with sardines as their only menu option.
Flint decides to build the “Diatonic Super Mutating Dynamic Food Replicator” which is a machine that turns water into food. Who wouldn’t dream of food falling off the sky? Great, right? The story quickly escalates as food starts to get bigger and bigger to the point of becoming a great “food appocalypse” that could cause human erradication. Now Flint tries to destroy his own machine.
Lebanon as Swallow Falls From Cloudy With A Chance of Meatball
So what are the similarities between Lebanon and Swallow Falls island and what would happen if someone built that same food-making machine in our country? That’s something you’d never think about so here we are talking about it!
Similarities Between Lebanon & Swallow Falls
1- No exports
Lebanon just like Swallow Falls have no exports. Swallow Falls only exports sardines and this doesn’t make it great! As a result, the only thing the habitants can eat is sardines.
2- Get a Real Job
Tim, Flint’s father, tries to convince his son to leave his dreams of science to “get a real job” and a good career in sardine shop. Makes us think of how Lebanese parents absolutely want certain careers for their daughters/sons in Lebanon.
3- Incompetent Mayor With Leadership Failure
“As your mayor, I know it’s time to put our sardine canning past behind us and look for the future…” quoted word by word from the movie “Cloudy With A Chance of Meatball” when the mayor of Swallow Falls puts up an ad on TV to show the citizen that he’s ready to move on and look at the future. Isn’t it strange that no one balmes him for past leadership failures? That kind of weirdly relates to our government? Maybe?
4- Lame Plan That Makes No Sense
The mayor of Swallow Falls decided, without the consent of the citizens, to build “Sardine Tourism Theme Park”. He explains that this is his plan to get the town to see better days. Come on! Who would want to travel countries just to experience “The Virtual Sardine Experience?”. What a lame plan that makes no sense right? Not very far from the “repair” plans we see in Lebanon.
5- Misplacing Budget
“That’s why without consulting anyone, I spent the entire town budget…” quoted word by word from the mayor of Swallow Falls. Not only does he come up with lame plans but he also spends an entire budget to build it. He does all that without consulting anyone nor having a financial study of the matter. What’s weirder is that the final outcome wouldn’t cost much! Makes us wonder where the money really went… his pockets maybe? This kind of sounds familiar to us right?
6- Corruption Dreaming Big
“This town is too small for me, I wanna be big! I want people to look at me and say that is one big mayor!” is yet another thing that the mayor confesses to one of his people. Rings a bell to you?
7- Greedy Mayor
Eventhough the mayor was reminded by Flint that overclocking the machine would cause great amount of trouble (notably the end of humanity) the Mayor acted greedy! He puts his own benefit before the safety of the citizens. No need to explain the similarity between Lebanon and Swallow Falls here.
What if Someone Built the food-making machine?
Turning water into food is a great idea that could put an end to hunger in the world! So what would happen if a Lebanese person created that same machine?
The Optimistic Point of View
1- More exports
Obviously the first thing that would happen is that Lebanon would have a much larger variety of food to export. Lebanon, despite the corruption, would bloom.
2- Better Tourism
Food falling off the sky is one sight you’d never see! If it was to rain food, a lot of tourists would be intrested to see this weird, delicious phenomena. The people coming to the country would exceed by far the people quitting it. Yes, the country would see the day when tourists comes in millions thus reviving our tourism buisness sector.
3- Better Life
With the ups and downs of the financial situation in the country, a lot of people are suffering and struggling to get their day-to-day needs. Nothing a food rain wouldn’t solve! There would be no more hunger in Lebanon and everyone would eat to their heart’s content.
The Pessimistic Point of View
1- More Targeted
If such machine existed in Lebanon and food was falling from above our heads, then we would be even more targeted by external forces. We would be the “new center of attention” of the world. Who wouldn’t want to invade a country that rains food from the sky or get their hands on a food making machine?
2- Food Appocalypse
Anywhere there is a problem in the world, a Lebanese person is behind it. That’s a joke we hear frequently! Imagine that things don’t turn quite as expected and the corruption pushes the government to be greedy (like the mayor in the movie). Lebanon would basically cause the “food appocalypse” in the world! YIKES!
Can Lebanon Build Such a Machine?
The short answer is NO! Even if the world advances in such a way to break down water molecules and construct them into any kind of food using the waves of a simple microwave, the movie still shows us that it’s impossible to get the machine to work unless it is powered by great amount of electricity…. which is something we don’t have!
